The Chronic Kidney Disease in Children (CKiD) study welcomes collaborations in research. Below is information about the concept sheet submission and review process.
Step 1: Pre Concept Sheet Submission
- Review the CKiD Publication Policies.
- Confirm there is no overlap with previously approved projects by reviewing the List of Approved CKiD Concept Sheets.
- Use the research plan template to outline your proposal.
- Internal CKiD investigators should have their new research proposal reviewed by another CKiD investigator.
- External investigators should discuss research proposal with their CKiD liaison to determine feasibility. If you are not already working with a CKiD liaison, external investigators should contact Bradley Warady (bwarady@cmh.edu) and/or Susan Furth (furths@email.chop.edu). A CKiD liaison is required for all external investigators.
- Review the CKiD data codebooks and data collection forms to help draft your proposal. Projects that require a limited dataset to perform the analysis at their institution will be required to list the specific variables that will be requested in their research plan.
Step 2: Initial Concept Sheet Submission
- Complete the online concept sheet submission form: https://redcap.link/ckidconceptsheetsubmission
- Upload your completed research plan (word doc or PDF) as part of the submission
Step 3: Concept Sheet Review
Your concept sheet will be reviewed by:
- The appropriate CKiD Scientific Subcommittee
- The CKiD Concept Sheet Review Committee
Based on the results of the concept sheet review, investigators will receive one of four responses:
- Approved “as is”
- Approved with comment
- Revisions requested
- Rejected (e.g., overlap with other CKiD projects, lacking scientific merit)
Step 4: Concept Sheet Revisions or Amendments
Concept Sheet Revisions
Investigators may submit a revised concept sheet based on comments from the reviewers and Concept Sheet Review Committee.
- Indicate the submission type is “revised” on the Research Plan (page 1)
- Complete the “Summary of Changes” section on research plan
- Complete the concept sheet revision form using the individual form link that was provided via email
- Include a clean version and a tracked version of the revised concept sheet and a response to any reviewer comments
- Please reach out to Judith Jerry-Fluker if you have any questions about the resubmission process
Amendments
Investigators may submit an addendum or amendment to a previously approved concept sheet if they are requesting additional data or specimens. The concept sheet will retain the same README number assigned to the initial project. To submit and amendment for review, please complete the following:
- Indicate the submission type as “addendum/expansion of previously approved concept” and include the original README # on Research Plan (page 1)
- Complete the “Summary of Changes” section on the Research Plan
- Include a clean version and a tracked version of the addendum or amendment to the original concept sheet and email both documents to Judith Jerry Fluker (jjerry@jhu.edu)
