Participants in CKiD are also followed through their initiation of dialysis or transplant in order to more fully understand the course of this disease and this population&#8217;s health beyond kidney replacement therapy (KRT). <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">CKiD started in 2003, and recently recruited its fourth wave of participants. Over <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">1,000<\/span> <span data-contrast=\"auto\">participants have enrolled<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> in CKiD,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> and many are continuing to be actively followed-up.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">CKiD collects a wide range of data on our participants, such as information on demographics, kidney function, biomarkers for cardiovascular disease, neurocognitive functioning and behaviors, <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">medications, genetics <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">and growth. <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">CKiD is always <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">evolving and adapting <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">to make sure <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">the most relevant and impactful data are being collected.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">CKiD is funded by the National <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Institute<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), the National institute of Child Health <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">and<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> Human Development (NICHD), and the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute childhood and young adulthood;<\/li>\n<li>the development of cardiovascular disease in adolescence and young adulthood;<\/li>\n<li>the trajectories of markers of metabolic bone disease and their relationship to cardiovascular endpoints; and<\/li>\n<li>the social function, neurocognitive function and emotional well-being of adolescents and young adults and their relationship to successful
