If you are an investigator interested in collaborating with CKiD, below is information on how to propose a new research proposal, request data and\/or specimens, develop and submit a manuscript, and comply with CKiD publication requirements.<\/p>\n<p>Please click <a href=\"https:\/\/airtable.com\/shrBqbkP7xhGbT8M7\/tblncdlUWjL3kGQJo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a> to see a list of approved, ongoing, and published CKiD projects.<\/p>\n<p>The information below applies to concept sheets and data and specimen requests that will be submitted directly to CKiD for approval. To submit a revision for review, please complete the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Indicate the submission type is &#8220;revised&#8221; on the <a href=\"https:\/\/statepi.jhsph.edu\/ckid\/download\/276\/investigator\/6951\/ckid-cs-research-plan.docx\">Concept Sheet Research Plan <\/a>\u00a0(page 1)<\/li>\n<li>Complete the &#8220;Summary of Changes&#8221; section on the concept sheet submission form (page 1)<\/li>\n<li>Complete the concept sheet revision form using the individual form link that was provided via email<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Amendments<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Investigators may submit an addendum or amendment to a previously approved concept sheet if they are requesting additional data or specimens. The concept sheet will retain the same README number assigned to the initial project. To submit and amendment for review, please complete the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Indicate the submission type as \u201caddendum\/expansion of previously approved concept\u201d and include the original README # on <a href=\"https:\/\/statepi.jhsph.edu\/ckid\/download\/276\/investigator\/6951\/ckid-cs-research-plan.docx\">Research Plan<\/a>\u00a0(page 1)<\/li>\n<li>Complete the \u201cSummary of Changes\u201d section on the Research Plan<\/li>\n<li>Include a clean version and a tracked version of the addendum or amendment to the original concept sheet and email both documents to Judith Jerry Fluker (jjerry@jhu.edu)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/section>\n<section class='av_toggle_section av-43jg9f-87a27e4e459dc75c0cced4bde46a4311'  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/CreativeWork\" ><div role=\"tablist\" class=\"single_toggle\" data-tags=\"{All} \"  ><p id='toggle-toggle-id-3' data-fake-id='#toggle-id-3' class='toggler  av-title-above '  itemprop=\"headline\"  role='tab' tabindex='0' aria-controls='toggle-id-3' data-slide-speed=\"200\" data-title=\"Request Limited Dataset\/Data Use Agreement\" data-title-open=\"\" data-aria_collapsed=\"Click to expand: Request Limited Dataset\/Data Use Agreement\" data-aria_expanded=\"Click to collapse: Request Limited Dataset\/Data Use Agreement\">Request Limited Dataset\/Data Use Agreement<span class=\"toggle_icon\"><span class=\"vert_icon\"><\/span><span class=\"hor_icon\"><\/span><\/span><\/p><div id='toggle-id-3' aria-labelledby='toggle-toggle-id-3' role='region' class='toggle_wrap  av-title-above'  ><div class='toggle_content invers-color '  itemprop=\"text\" ><p>As indicated on the concept sheet submission form, an investigator can request the creation of a limited data set to complete the analysis independently.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Must complete a Data Use Agreement (DUA) between investigator&#8217;s institution and Johns Hopkins (on behalf of CKiD)\n<ul>\n<li>Investigator submits the DUA to their own institution&#8217;s research administration to obtain the appropriate signatures<\/li>\n<li>Send partially executed DUA back to CKiD to submit to JHU Research Administration<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>After fully executed DUA is completed, KIDMAC will prepare the dataset and codebook for the variables included in investigator&#8217;s approved concept sheet<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If an investigator is completing the analysis independently and wants to examine additional variables beyond those requested in their approved concept sheet, an addendum will need to be submitted and reviewed. To submit an addendum request, an investigator will need to complete the <a href=\"https:\/\/statepi.jhsph.edu\/ckid\/wp-content\/uploads\/CKiD_conceptsheetsubform_04_2021.docx\">Concept Sheet Submission Form<\/a>, list the additional variables requested and check &#8220;addendum&#8221; as the submission type and include the assigned README number.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/section>\n<section class='av_toggle_section av-266gab-73938983a5bfe9c0259017ceca47a754'  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/CreativeWork\" ><div role=\"tablist\" class=\"single_toggle\" data-tags=\"{All} \"  ><p id='toggle-toggle-id-4' data-fake-id='#toggle-id-4' class='toggler  av-title-above '  itemprop=\"headline\"  role='tab' tabindex='0' aria-controls='toggle-id-4' data-slide-speed=\"200\" data-title=\"Requesting Specimens\" data-title-open=\"\" data-aria_collapsed=\"Click to expand: Requesting Specimens\" data-aria_expanded=\"Click to collapse: Requesting Specimens\">Requesting Specimens<span class=\"toggle_icon\"><span class=\"vert_icon\"><\/span><span class=\"hor_icon\"><\/span><\/span><\/p><div id='toggle-id-4' aria-labelledby='toggle-toggle-id-4' role='region' class='toggle_wrap  av-title-above'  ><div class='toggle_content invers-color '  itemprop=\"text\" ><p>Before obtaining CKiD specimens from the NIDDK Central Repository, an investigator must complete these steps:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Obtain documented Institutional Review Board approval or exemption from your institution<\/li>\n<li>Register for a user account on the NIDDK Central Repository website (<a href=\"https:\/\/repository.niddk.nih.gov\/home\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.niddkrepository.org<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Obtain a fully executed Sample and Data Use Certification (SDUC). This is an agreement between the investigator and the NIDDK Central Repository.\n<ul>\n<li>NIDDK Central Repository Agreement forms &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/repository.niddk.nih.gov\/pages\/agreement_forms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Requires authorized signatures from the study PI and institution. If collaborating with external investigators, an investigator from each institution is required to complete a separate SDUC<\/li>\n<li>All communication with NIDDK Central Repository is done through its website<\/li>\n<li>SDUC is valid for two years from the data of approval. Renewal of access may be granted by submitting a request to the NIDDK Central Repository<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Once fully executed SDUC is obtained, KIDMAC will provide sample list to upload onto the NIDDK Central Repository website and the repository prepares request<\/li>\n<li>If there are any issues with the request (i.e., date or visit discrepancies, less sample than expected), the repository communicates issues with KIDMAC to find resolution<\/li>\n<li>Cost and shipment information is confirmed with investigator<\/li>\n<li>Prior to shipment, final shipping manifest is reviewed by KIDMAC<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/section>\n<section class='av_toggle_section av-84v5b7-fc4f52bc980e426de27376f4e591846f'  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/CreativeWork\" ><div role=\"tablist\" class=\"single_toggle\" data-tags=\"{All} \"  ><p id='toggle-toggle-id-5' data-fake-id='#toggle-id-5' class='toggler  av-title-above '  itemprop=\"headline\"  role='tab' tabindex='0' aria-controls='toggle-id-5' data-slide-speed=\"200\" data-title=\"Annual Progress Report for Approved Concept Sheets\" data-title-open=\"\" data-aria_collapsed=\"Click to expand: Annual Progress Report for Approved Concept Sheets\" data-aria_expanded=\"Click to collapse: Annual Progress Report for Approved Concept Sheets\">Annual Progress Report for Approved Concept Sheets<span class=\"toggle_icon\"><span class=\"vert_icon\"><\/span><span class=\"hor_icon\"><\/span><\/span><\/p><div id='toggle-id-5' aria-labelledby='toggle-toggle-id-5' role='region' class='toggle_wrap  av-title-above'  ><div class='toggle_content invers-color '  itemprop=\"text\" ><p>All investigators with approved CKiD concept sheets are required to submit an annual progress report.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Investigators must show productivity within 6 months after Steering Committee approval<\/li>\n<li>If no progress report is received after two reminders, CKiD can close the project<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A link to the progress report will be available here when the progress report is due.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/section>\n<section class='av_toggle_section av-miorieoa-08b3c76453be39d45202a2d3b2301cdd'  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/CreativeWork\" ><div role=\"tablist\" class=\"single_toggle\" data-tags=\"{All} \"  ><p id='toggle-toggle-id-6' data-fake-id='#toggle-id-6' class='toggler  av-title-above '  itemprop=\"headline\"  role='tab' tabindex='0' aria-controls='toggle-id-6' data-slide-speed=\"200\" data-title=\"Journal Pre-submission Manuscript Review\" data-title-open=\"\" data-aria_collapsed=\"Click to expand: Journal Pre-submission Manuscript Review\" data-aria_expanded=\"Click to collapse: Journal Pre-submission Manuscript Review\">Journal Pre-submission Manuscript Review<span class=\"toggle_icon\"><span class=\"vert_icon\"><\/span><span class=\"hor_icon\"><\/span><\/span><\/p><div id='toggle-id-6' aria-labelledby='toggle-toggle-id-6' role='region' class='toggle_wrap  av-title-above'  ><div class='toggle_content invers-color '  itemprop=\"text\" ><p><strong>BEFORE journal submission, the lead author MUST submit the final draft of the manuscript to the Concept Sheet Review (CSR) Committee. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>All drafted manuscripts must be submitted through the online\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jotform.com\/build\/241994393418064\">Pre-submission Manuscript Review form<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The CSR committee will review the authorship list, supplemental material, and acknowledgments to ensure compliance with the CKiD Publication Policy. Additionally, if a CKiD investigator is not a co-author, the CSR committee or designated reviewer will review the manuscript to ensure the approach and scientific conclusions are appropriate. The CSR committee will also forward the draft to the NIH Program Directors for review.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Investigators must allow 7-10 days for CSR administrative review and NIH review prior to journal submission.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>README # Requirement<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When completing the pre-submission manuscript review form, investigators must provide the approved concept sheet README # associated with the manuscript.
